If you need a laugh, I mean REALLY need a laugh, I have a guaranteed solution.
There is a product sold on Amazon called the Hutzler 571 Banana Slicer. It a little plastic thing that you push a banana through, and it cuts it into uniform slices (see picture below). It is a lackluster little kitchen utensil with one very narrow purpose – to perform a mundane task that is already super easy to do. It is perhaps one of the most useless products ever made.
But here’s the thing. Several thousand people have written “reviews” of this silly and unnecessary product, making outlandish claims for it. And the 5000+ reviews are priceless. I laughed till I cried. Here is an example (note that over 35,000 people found this review helpful):
What can I say about the 571B Banana Slicer that hasn’t already been said about the wheel, penicillin, or the iPhone…. this is one of the greatest inventions of all time. My husband and I would argue constantly over who had to cut the day’s banana slices. It’s one of those chores NO ONE wants to do! You know, the old “I spent the entire day rearing OUR children, maybe YOU can pitch in a little and cut these bananas?” and of course, “You think I have the energy to slave over your damn bananas?
